Georgia to Georgia, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Georgia, USA, and dedicated to helping people, especially orphaned and needy children, in the former Soviet republic of Georgia, primarily through education, but also with direct humanitarian aid when needed. The direct humanitarian aid portion of our mission assumed significant proportions when Russian troops invaded Georgia in 2008.
The Atlanta-Tbilisi Sister Cities Committee joined with us in September, 2008, including representation on our Board of Directors. ATSSC has several hundred members, including many members of the Georgian community in Atlanta, and has been very successful in fund raising for Georgian causes.
What We Do is raise funds to support various humanitarian efforts in the country of Georgia, mostly to help children. These include direct aid through non-governmental organizations in Georgia, such as winter blankets for internally displaced persons (IDPs), to providing scholarships to at-risk children. As in the past, these scholarships to attend trade or vocational schools, and University if they qualify, allow them to bridge the gap between leaving an orphanage at 16 and living a productive life as an adult.
We hope this site will acquaint you with the problems the Georgian people face, how we are helping, and how you can be part of this effort.
